Peggy and I have been connected with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston for a long time. Through the years, I have taught and advised many students from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and mentored infectious disease fellows at The University of Texas School of Public Health.
Peggy has been a research associate at both the Medical School and, for more than a decade, at the School of Public Health. We both believe strongly in supporting the continued success of the schools. I bring my research grants and contracts through the Health Science Center for management and have my research labor atories in the School of Public Health. I have developed research programs around the globe in Guatemala, Peru, Zambia, India, and Kenya, to name a few. However, one of my favorites is the program of research in Mexico where, for the past 29 years, students from boththe Medical School and the School of Public Health have carried out a senior student elective in international research while experiencing a new culture and language. These students are now in academic and practice environments all over the world and represent a special fraternity/sorority.
Peggy and I want to ensure that qualified students and medical graduates are able to pursue exciting careers and explore vital issues in the medical and public health fields. We are both very grateful to the Health Science Center as we feel it is the source of much of our good fortune. Although we intend to continue our altruistic donations during our lives, we also have chosen to make testamentary arrangements to guarantee that our work and the schools of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston are supported later. Making charitable arrangements in our will allows us control over our assets in our lifetime but ensures that our wishes will be met after death.
